Jason Florio ‘Makasutu’ ‘I’m not sure how Jason found time to put together a photography book, in between walking the Gambia with a large format camera and going on a 50,000 mile round-the-world assignment, but… he has and “Makasutu – Mecca in the Forest” looks fabulous.‘ Julie Grahame – aCurator
Over the last few years, (Jason) Florio’s 12-year project of black and white portraits – ‘Makasutu’ – and the color portraits of village chiefs and elders – ‘Silafando’ – from our ‘A Short Walk in the Gambian Bush – a 930km African odyssey’ expedition in 2009, have received remarkable attention: press, solo exhibitions, museum acquisitions, and awards. And they continue to receive recognition – the ‘Silafando’ portraits are just about to appear in Travel Africa Magazine’s next edition (on the shelves imminently!)
To help you, the perusers of our humble blog, better understand the strong connection we have towards Africa – West Africa in particular, it seems – leading up to the River Gambia Expedition 2012 (paddles in the water early October – Insh’Allah) every so often, we will feature some of the past press, awards etc., here on the blog.
We hope you enjoy dipping your toes into the past with us.
